How much to replace a wood fireplace with natural gas?

My husband and I are thinking about purchasing a house. When I see a home with a wood burning fireplace I tend to run the other way b/c I grew up with them and think they are a pain in the *beep*. I would love to have a fireplace I can turn on with the flick of a switch, so I was wondering how much it would cost to convert a wood fireplace with a gas one? I can’t find squat on the internet, and without owning an actual fireplace it is kinda impossible to get a quote. Does anyone have a rough idea. Perhaps it would be easier to just purchase a home with the gas f/p? I’m looking for Canadian dollars….but I’ll get a pretty good idea if anyone has US figures too.

How do I tell if this is a ventless gas fireplace?

I don’t know if it’s ventless because my home inspector for some reason wouldn’t take the time to figure it out, and told me to ask the sellers. When I asked the sellers, they told me to the best of their knowledge it was ventless. I don’t want to take the risk.. is there a way i can figure it out? I mean it does open because at one time it was a wood fireplace, but then this gas fireplace was installed.. I can’t quite use it open yet until I clean the chimney if it isn’t ventless, and i’d rather not open it in the winter..
there are such things as ventless gas fireplaces..

I have a regular wood fireplace, how do I use it?

I’m pretty sure its just a wood fireplace. Do I just put wood in and light them? Or do I need something special?

I bought this house six months ago and the inspector said the fireplace looked good. It has a switch that turns on fans to blow hot air out from the top and bottom. Thats really all I know about it.

Thanks!

do i have to replace or can i fix it?

on my wood fireplace their is the back wall thats made of i dont know what but looks like brick but to thin to be so is their a way to fix the crack or do i have to buy a whole insert?

Do liberals enjoy outlawing??

No affense but: Liberals must enjoy freedom taking away. Or at least let the government be our mommys and daddies.

Look at this perspective.
Colorado- Liberal state
Doesn’t allow any type of wood fireplaces anymore. You have to get those laim expensive pellet stoves.
Allows only a VERY limited amount of fireworks.
No smoking in public places- Even in bars

Kansas- Conservative State
Doesn’t ban smoking- Lets the owner decide.
Allows any type of wood fireplace. You can actually burn wood or coal.
Allows all consumer fireworks legal under the U.S.

Why would anyone want to live where freedoms are being taken away?
Because liberals think they know better than everyone? They think their just perfect I guess.

Weren’t these liberals known as the hippies that turned into dope addicts back in the late 60’s?

I knew a liberal that thought smoking, wood pellet stoves, and fireworks were completely wrong. At night he would go home/smoke several joints of marijuana
I know many liberals that want guns outlawed as well. So, next time the robber comes into the house. We have a better chance of loosing a family member.
Ya guns can hurt us so our government parents should take them away. LOL I mean come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oklahoma did not ban happy hours from bars and resteraunts. Are you reading a joke to make me believe this or something?

If you were looking at a house to purchase would you prefer a wood or gas fireplace.?

Going to sell a house that has a wood fireplace and I am debating on converting it to gas for practicality reasons. Should I leave it wood or switch? Yes with the price of gas wood might be better but what do you think?

How do i make an ugly corner fireplace pretty? It has old brown, dull tiles. Can somebody please help??

If i planned on living here for a number of years, i would just redo them, but we plan on purchasing a house in two years, so i really just want something to quick fix, if its even possible. I will be using the wood fireplace, as it will be cheaper than electric. I need something that won’t catch on fire or melt all over the place. Any opinions, and you are a genious! Thank you!

How can I convert my gas fireplace BACK to wood?

Our fireplace is currently set up for gas but it was originally a wood fireplace. the previous owners converted to gas but I’d like to convert back.

would it be dangerous for me to convert back to wood? and if you have any knowledge of this, what would I need to do in order to convert back to wood, safely. Any tips. Thanks. :D

Cracks in plaster at the top of a wood fireplace – What is the best way to fix them?

This is an older house (50 years) with plaster walls, and there are cracks in the plaster around the top of a wood fireplace opening; the front of the fireplace opening is brick, topped by a wood mantle, the about 3 ft of painted plaster, with a decorative plaster ceiling. This includes fine cracks at the smooth front part, and deeper cracks at the right-hand side where the fireplace surround is at a right-angle to the wall. What is the best way to fix them?

Will gas log heating in basement fireplace heat an open basement area of 1200 sq. ft?

I have a wood burning fireplace in my basement. The basement has become my office and rec room. The basement is finished but it still gets very cold. I have a space heater but it does not really warm the area. The wood burning fireplace dose not give out much heat. Do you have any suggestions. We did not want to spend for a gas insert at this time but would be willing to convert the wood fireplace to gas logs if that would help.
