Safety questions about a wood-burning stove in a garage.

http://www.countrysidemag.com/issues/88/88-6/W_Wayne_Robertson.html We want to put a wood-burning stove like the one in the link in our garage. The walls are unfinished (exposed studs). What can we use on the walls for fireproofing? Would cement blocks work? Looking for cheap here, but it must be safe.

How do I find out how far from the wall the stove has to be placed? Do we need to have it inspected before using it? Would it be the fire department that does that? Thanks very much for your help.

Does anyone know of a brand of wood burning stove which exhauses out the back instead of the top?

I need a wood burning stove which has the chimney pipe exiting on the back side. Any help appreciated.

Plasma above a wood burning stove?

I already have a plasma TV above my fireplace, which I have never lit a fire in. My husband and I are thinking of ripping out the fireplace and putting in a wood burning stove. Everyone is saying that the heat that radiates from the stove will have a bad effect on the plasma, has anyone else put a plasma above a stove and it was OK.
Thanks for looking.

chimney won't draw all the time?

WE BUILT THIS HOUSE 9 YEARS AGO AND THAT IS WHEN THE WOOD BURNING STOVE INSERT WAS INSTALLED IN A BRICK FIREPLACE. WE HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM WITH UNTIL THIS YEAR. THE PROBLEM IS SOMETIMES IT WON’T DRAW WHEN STARTING A FIRE AND OTHER TIMES YOU MAY HAVE A FIRE BURNING AND IT QUITS DRAWING. WE HAVE HAD THE CHIMNEY CLEANED TWICE IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THE HOUSE AS FAR AS REMODEL OR EXTRA SEALING OF DOORS OR WINDOWS. THE TEMPERATURES HAVE BEEN IN LOW 30′S TO 40 DEGREES FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS, WIND HAS BEEN LIGHT TO 20MPH FOR THIS SAME PERIOD OF TIME AND RAINY. THE AREA AROUND THE HOUSE HAS NOT CHANGED AS FAR AS OTHER HOUSES BEING BUILT OR TREES GROWING UP OR BEING CUT DOWN. WE LIVE IN NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS, JUST NORTH OF DALLAS ABOUT 40 MILES. I AM OUT OF IDEAS. NEED SOME HELP.

Two mostly grey landscape paintings, 1 large, 1 smaller – I don't like them, most walls are occupied?

already with paintings, prints, that I do like.
It’s all the grey that makes them unattractive. One was gift from friend, another is one I won in a church raffle.
None of my rooms have grey in them. One has black iron stair rail, a little black on tiles around the fireplace. The fireplace now has wood-burning stove insert, standing a couple of feet out from wall, so hides areas of fireplace tile.
Is there any way to display them that will make more attractive?
edited: Hmn. Two good answers, thank you. The friend’s gift i am reluctant to part with, so the suggestions give me hope. And I would never have thought of them by self!

would this work for a wood burning stove?

I have a wood burning stove (not installed) and I have a fireplace in my house. My wife is always complaining about the heat. I know some people would probably shy away from this idea, but has it/can it be done safely? I want to pull the flue out of the chimney, measure the hole, get a piece of steel or sheet medal, cut a hole in the sheet medal and run a aluminum vent pipe through the hole about one foot. insert this plate and vent pipe into the chimney. Connect the wood burning stove to this new vent. Any ideas / suggestions / words of wisdom would be appreciated. Has anyone tried this or have seen this before?

Wood burning stove removal?

I’m interested in a house that has a wood-burning stove fitted into an existing wood-burning fireplace; that is, the pipe goes up the chimney. We’d still want to use the fireplace, but want to remove the stove. Is it best done by a pro, and if not, is it difficult to remove the pipe from the chimney (or would we even have to)?

What’s wrong with my wood burning stove?

I just used my wood burning stove, and when I close the door all the way the fire goes out, what gives? I checked the flue and it is open, and smoke is coming out of the chimney. Not sure what the deal is. Any one out there that has had this problem?
