What will make a Major reduction in my heating costs this winter?

I have taken the first steps to conserve heat and cut down on electricity: switched to all florescent bulbs, foam insulate all cracks, caulk and seal around all doors and windows, open drapes on full sun windows during the day and close at night, eliminate air leaks, insulate and seal duct work, turn off vents in unused rooms, programmable thermostat, thermostat at 65 and always wear warm clothes, don’t use exhaust fans, etc.

I’ve been reading about Eco Heaters, quartz infrared portable heaters and corn and pellet stoves. Until the price of installing solar panels comes down, are there proven alternatives that would be affordable and effective to save on energy costs this winter?

Also, I forgot to ask about fireplace inserts with side blowers. I’ve read fireplaces actually draw heat from the house and out the chimney.Anyone have one or suggest an alternative?

Bay Area Spare The Air Day?

Does anyone else have a problem with "spare the air" days when using pellet stoves which are 10x better than fireplaces.
The other big issue is it forces you to use PG&E who contributes heavily $$$ to elected officials who control the EPA
The other even bigger issue is our federal government refuses to let us regulate the cars sold here in CA which would improve "air quality 1000x" compared to no burn days for BBQ and pellet stoves.
Think desiel trucks which do not meet even the most basic CA standards for emissions….huge plums of smoke coming from Shell oil refinery…lol

I say the hell with them and let them go pick on the business that create the most….what do you think

Why isn’t energy independence in Obama’s Stimulus Package?

Drilling for more oil will create jobs, get us out of the middle east, it will keep the price low and everyone will benefit from that.

Clean Coal technology would bring in jobs etc….

Wind & Solar. There are many companies that already do this and to incorporate them into the mix would help. Maybe Obama could get them to lower costs for homeowners and businesses etc…. This could be new jobs.

Natural Gas is another USA Resource that would create jobs and keep the cost of Natural Gas down.

Pellet Stoves – why isn’t this into the mix? I live in New England and we spent a total of $ 650.00 for the whole winter season.

ETC….

We have so many natural resources here and none of the stimulus package is geared towards that.

What do you think?
Jacques: Infrastructure? Are we not being taxed per person per State for this? I think we are. I think each State should be held accountable for their own projects. Why should I have to pay for my State and other States?

What’s the punctuation mistakes i am making?

How do we solve this problem? Easy get people educated on going green, tell them how they can save money. When going to the grocery store pick up one of those trendy shopping bags. For every bag that is being used three cents gets deducted off the bill.

2. instead of heating the house and the water with oil, why not heat it with pellet stoves and solar panels? My grandfather has both. he absolutely loves them. with the pellet stoves it is cheapter to buy the pellets every four months, rather than every three months filling up the oul tank for heat. Solar panels are also cheaper, they heat your water by extracting the sun, some solar panel companies give tax incentives for using solar panels because it is saving the planet one by one.

3.How about saving our paper? when throwing away paper it goes into the dumpster and it never gets reused again, by recycling the paper will get used again, therefor the tree will not get wasted.

4.( this one is for a comma splice) I myself is gulity for making this mistake because it saves as much as .00 to 0.00 on the electric bill, just imagine if everyone did this, we would be saving a ton of money and reduce the amount of engery.

5.The biggest part of saving our planet is saving the water supply. it is often taken for granted, but if we use these tips we may be able to save the water.

6. (this one is for comma splices it says i have 3 of them)
It is easy to get involved and it is easy to keep it up, the only problem is to keep the word out and keep it spreading, if we do not get this message out to people soon, there is going to be no earth for us all to live on. Then what? We have to take charge NOW! Let’s stop wasting water, let’s start recycling bottles, cans and paper. At work for why not go paperless for our pay stubs? We all can make a difference, it goes to show that the little things in life can make a big difference.

New wood stove, no chimney?

I want to purchase a wood stove but don’t have a chimney. I dont want to install a brick chimney. What other options do I have? The installation would be against an outside wall. Building the hearth won’t be an issue. Not interested in pellet stoves.

Wood pellets fuel?green energy? is it cost effective, effeciant fuel?

i read a lot about this kind of fuel, but i need to learn from people who try it, is it effeciant and very much cheaper than the oil fuel, i heard bout the wood pellet burners, that can be fitted into an exsisting central heating system, to replace the fossil oil burner,is it effeciant ? i heard that it is very expensive,as well for the pellet stoves, can anybody with practical experience help me in making up my mind,i love to use anything good to the enviorment, but i do not want to regrit it,thanks

What happened with the Hurricane in Texas?

I heard a few oil refineries got completely obliterated and that the economy is suffering for it via gas prices. There is talk that it is per a gallon. Is this true? And will this rise in gas prices reach up north? What can we do? What WILL we do? Pellet stoves and hybrids arent enough. Exactly what is the plan for the U.S. and its dependency on foreign oil? Do we even have one….maybe we should……??????!!!!!!!!!
