Did you know that most used up landfills turn into golf courses?

I always found that interesting. After a landfill is at capacity they will usually turn it into a golf course( in places with land to spare), They will build houses for the upper class on this land and the grass and shrubbery will flourish. How do I know this? My Republican(Mexican)Engineer husband has spent his adult career working with landfill inspection and alternative energy.Wind power, and natural gas. Got to love those Texan, Mexican, Republican environmentalists.( the ones that actually know what can work and what is a bunch of political BS)
(insert liberal self rightous crap here)
My husband just told me to mention playground and ball fields

Convert my regular fireplace to gas?

Just bought a home that has a regular fireplace. Looks like it was never used (since 1949?). I would like to put natural gas into it. What are my options for a gas fireplace? Looked for ‘gas fireplace inserts’ and found prices from 0 to well over 00. Someone said I can just put a gas bar thing, with fake logs and cinders for a couple hundred. I’d be interested in what anyone has experienced.
Thanks!

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner vs Gas Log Heater?

Hi,

I am looking at buying a gas log heater for warming the house in winter.

Currently we have a fujitsu ‘inverter’ reverse cycle air conditioner, which is the primary heating source for the house.

I have read that reverse cycle air conditioners are very efficient for heating the house, as they draw atmospheric heat from outside the house. However, we live in a cold part of Victoria, Australia, and the average temperature outside is about 8 degrees celsius in the evenings, during winter.

I am skeptical about the efficiency of a reverse cycle air conditioner, and I was wondering how viable a gas log heater might be for warming the house.

The gas log heater would be running off natural gas, and at the current prices, looks like it costs about 40c to run per hour. I have tried to do a comparison with the reverse cycle air conditioner, but I can’t come to a reasonable estimate of cost per hour, as I really don’t know how much energy it is consuming.

Also, the house is shaped so that the living area is down one end of the house, and the bedrooms are up the other. We are looking at installing a heat transfer pipe from the living area to the rest of the house, to compliment the gas log heater.

Any suggestions/advice are most welcome. Also, if possible I would like to know how to work out the energy required to run the reverse cycle air conditioner in these conditions.

Should I get a gas log heater?

Adding a natural gas vent to a wood burning chimney?

is it possible to run a natural gas vent up a chimney using something like b vent or 4 inch pipe? What i have is a wood stove using my chimney that measures somthing like 8"x12", or close to that. I want to run a 4 inch pipe up the chimney for my gas furnace to keep the flu separate. Is this ok and is it possible? Would it be better to run it somewhere else?
I still want to use the wood stove and the furnace

Can you replace just the logs in gas fireplace?

Two of the actual logs broke in our gas fireplace. The fireplace is made by Monessen model #DEB24 natural gas. Is there anywhere that sells just the logs without having to buy an entire new fireplace? I looked at Monesen’s website and it said to contact the dealer where the fireplace was bought with any concerns, but the logs were here when we bought the house and I have no clue where they came from.

can I connect 2 small propane tanks to a 30" gas stove?

let’s say, I m converting my 30" natural gas sove for propane gas, can I connect 2 (barbeque gas grill type) tanks to my 30" gas stove?, whats the working pressure that is required to operate my 30" sove?, on average 3 meals a day cooking , how long will it last the gas per tanks.
propane gas companys wants me to buy the gas tank and they are expensive , also if I rent it they want me to refill it twice a year but just for cooking I will not use that much.
that’s why I’m cosidering using the 2 small 20 gallon propane tanks, is there any safety concerns why I shouldn’t do it?
thanks for any feed back.
