I would like to built my own raised hearth pad but need help!

With the cost of heating oil well over / gal I decided to purchase a Harman pellet stove, which will be delivered in about 2 weeks and want to built a standard 48" x 48" hearth raised about 3-6". My plan is to frame it out with 2×4’s and then put plywood on top of the 2×4’s but what do i do about laying the tile.Obviouslyy, it won’t stick it the plywood. I plan on buying some ceramic tiles at Home Depot or somewhere.

Please tell me what you think I should do or if u have an entire new plan, let me know!

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

Will a tile underlayment work if I do not screw it to the subfloor?

I am making a tile hearth extension to meet code distance for a fireplace insert. For r-factor I will use 1/2" micore 300, then 1/4" Wonderboard, then thinset and matching tiles. My concern and question is whether my underlayment will be stable enough if I do not screw down the Micore and Wonderboard? The reason I do not want to screw it down is because the subfloor has radiant heating tubes with water. The tubes are under an inch of a gypsum/sand/cement mixture.

How to secure hearth to concrete floor?

I am living in a newer home.
Gas fireplace
Surrounded by tile.
The existing ‘hearth’ is tile that is attached directly to the concrete floor.
I want to remove that, and build a hearth that is raised.
How do you attach the framing to the concrete floor?
Currently there is carpet that goes up to the tile hearth, but I will be removing that and putting in tile flooring.
The link is not my home, nor does it resemble the layout. But it has pictures that are similar to what I am thinking for how to create the framing for the hearth.

How much will not having a fireplace hurt our sales price?

We live in Nebraska and built our home last year. To keep costs down, we didn’t build in a fireplace and opted to have an electric type to move around instead. All the comps I have been doing have fireplaces/hearth rooms and I am hard pressed to find a home without a fireplace here. How much will that hurt when we sell? I know we may exclude certain buyers who absolutely want one, but it really wasn’t that important to us. I am just looking for a general figure…..our home is 4 beds, 2.5 baths and about 3000 sq ft with finished basement and 2 car garage, built in 2007 and bought for 177k.

what color do you think would go with mauve fireplace tiles?

We just bought an old victorian home, and there is a fireplace in the master bedroom. the original hearth is still on it, and the tiles on the surround are a mauve color. i dont know what color to paint the walls!! i dont like tan or off white, and the walls are pink now and it looks gross. it cant be yellow because room accross the hall is yellow, and i dont want them both to be. gray is a possibility, but then what would i do for curtains and the bed spread?

What is the area in front of the hearth called-the floor area?

I need two words to describe areas in the house (we are selling and need to advertise). One-the area in front of a fireplace on the floor (not the hearth). The carpet was burned by embers, so I replaced that portion with stone tiles. Is there a special name for the floor in front of a fireplace?
And the second- we have a large 2-person jacuzzi tub. The tub is not sunken, but surrounding it is a raised area (raised to the level of the top of the tub), tiled in shiny indigo. It a place to sit while drying off, or sit and talk to someone in the tub…it makes the tub look sunken, since this raised area is about 3-4 feet out from the tub. Is there a special name for this raised and tiled area?
Thank you so much if you can help- Besides the points, I’ll be more than happy to answer any question you have on medical or scientific matters!
Thanks oneblond- that is a good addition- Now, what is your science question? I looked at your ID, but there is no way to contact you by email.

Advice for installation of Marble Fireplace Please?

We recently bought an Aurora "Micro-Marble" fireplace from a DIY store. We bought it on impulse and thought it was a good idea at the time.

It comes in 6 pieces including the hearth and the back panel.
The instructions are very minimal with basic diagrams which only tell us what goes where.

There were no fixings, no advice on how to assemble it or anything.

It looks to us like we need to use some sort of resin to bond the mantle and legs together, but what do we use? Whats going to be strong enough to hold it? Its so heavy!

Its only to house an electric fire, theres no chimney or flue to worry about so it’s purely decorative, but it needs to be fixed together, and also anchored to the wall.

To be honest, we’re regretting buying it, as we really have no idea what we’re supposed to do but can’t take it back now so we’d best get on with it.

Please if you know what we should be using and how to fix it I would very much appreciate your advice!
Many thanks & kind regards

Picture: Curved fireplace hearth & surround tile application! HELP?

My fireplace REALLY needs an update. I had no participation on the exsisting tile. I like the curved shape of the hearth, but I want to replace the painted ceramic tile and replace it with small glass mosaic tile. I have done my research and I’m ready to demo the tile, but I want to know if there is a such thing as a backerboard that I can use for the shape of my hearth and surround. Is there some kind of alternative?

Thank you for your help
