What should I look for in an electrical fireplace, stove, etc? I have gas furnace and a very large home. I have had everything I can think of done to make it more efficient but I am afraid that the gas bill is still going to be too high again this year. I have gas logs but no damper, I have looked into the dampers that install on the top but they all say don’t use with gas logs. ?????
I cannot get my gas logs to light. I have looked things over and the cord that runs from the push button ignitor to the where it would spark has fallen out of the sparking end. I don’t know if I should stick the cord back up in there or if it something that needs to be totally replaced. Looking for someone who might know what I need to do?
Our heater and fireplace is gas – we’ve reduce our heater last month and just placed a few electric heaters in a couple of rooms and it is worked just fine. Our heating bill was 5 cheaper than last year! With this arctic freeze coming, can we remove the gas logs and burn those "4 hour" paper logs in our fireplace? We won’t be burning real logs, thus creating a roaring fire – the flames aren’t expected to get bigger than they were when it was the gas. But I want to be sure it is safe.
I have an electric heat pump as a primary source of heat. I have not had time to get gas brought out for the gas logs. Will my pipes be ok (safe) from freezing. House is built on a raised concrete slab, my guess the pipes are in the ceiling of the house. The heat pump is new, will this keep my house warm and pipes from freezing.
If so, do you have gas logs or burn wood?
Gas is to expensive.
I live in a 1920′s house with 3 very small fireplaces. I’d like to convert to gas but all the gas logs I find are too small. Any suggestions?
We are wanting to use our wood burning fireplace this winter. We had our chimney professionally cleaned/swept two weeks ago. We have starter logs, grate, safety matches and all the accessories. Does Lowes or Home Depot sell wood for wood burning fireplaces? I know they sell the gas logs. We’re looking for seasoned pine wood or fir. Anything else we missed? Thank you for your suggestions.
Thanks for the cedar tid bit. We forgot to add that wood to our list. We were looking for at least 1/4th cord. We’ve relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, so we’re still looking. Any other suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks guys! We’re learning more as we research and read your answers as well. We’ve changed our wood list completely. Keep them coming. Also, we’ve called a local 24 hour grocer that has wood outside the store in bundles for under ten bucks. Not sure what kind of wood it is yet.
