I want to buy a 50 acre lot of land in a wooded area, with no bodies of water within 5 miles of the perimeter and civilization kind of far away too. I am going to build a two story house.
MY HOUSE:
-30×40 ft
-2 stories, no basement and no attic
-no stairs, only a ladder and a 5×5 electric lift
-2nd floor has a 5ft wide, 2ft thick steel door that slides open, and is from ceiling to floor
-second floor is one open room, with a 6×6ft closet in the southeastern corner of the floor
-1 full bathroom on the first floor. that’s it.
-only one window. a 1 by .5 ft window in the bathroom
-one front door, one back door, standard 30in
-first floor is all one open room, with a step dividing the kitchen and dining room to the living room (my bed is going in the lower left corner of the living room)
-normal electric oven, normal fridge, double sink
-house is going to be made of 5ft thick steel with 5ft of concrete on both sides of the walls. ceiling is going to be made of just steel
-foundation and house are going to be built from scratch
i am going to have a separate 4 car garage
MY GARAGE:
-same material as house, steel and concrete
-door is going to be one large door, not 5 separate doors
-just one story, no basement and no attic
-one 3×3ft slop sink, both hot and cold water tap

QUESTIONS:
1. About how much do you think it is going to cost? Land, material and labor? Oh, and it IS going to include hot water, electricity, cable and internet. No heat though, I have blankets and the fire place for that.
2. Given I have paid for the materials in full, and I have paid the workers in full for building the places, what would my monthly tax be on the house and land?
I am buying a home with a factory built gas log fire place. I have experience with the wood burning ones. How does this differ? Is it easy to keep up with? Does it give off the same kind of heat? I’d like some real opinions here, please.
I am looking at removing the existing wooden fire place surround (not a mantel, but some decorative wood surrounding the fireplace), and the 70’s fireplace hearth, and replacing each with some nice slate tiles.
The slate would be attached to the wall, and to the floor. Is there anything I should know when attaching (slate) tiles to a wall? Do I need to remove any paint, or can I get an adhesive that will bond (PL Premium or regular mortar mix?).
How close should the grout lines be with slate? I know with marble you want them close, and with ceramic you can have some space.
How do you ensure the tiles don’t "slip" when attached to a vertical wall.
Sorry for the questions, but I do appreciate any suggestions and answers!
I have a wood burning fireplace, and the damper is wide open all the time. When you get up in the morning it is almost as cold in that room as it is outside. There is no place on the out side of the fire place to adjust the damper, what can I do to access the damper with out getting down and having to look up inside the fireplace to adjust the damper.
Thank you,
Freezing in Ohio
So there is no way to hook something on the damper so you can operate it from the outside of the fireplace? With the chimney bag you have to wait for the fireplace to cool off before it can be put in when not in use?Seems like alot of trouble. LOL
Thanks in advance.

i have designated a room for my son to play in.. but it’s hard to find gates to surround the tv and fireplace. i really don’t want to spend 0 on two gates. right now, i just have it kinda sectioned off with a play yard that could be taken apart.. but my son has learned how to move them. any ideas?
the fire place is like a square, more of a rectangle really. the tv is in the corner.
I know a lot of people buy fire place wood pellets for bedding because it’s great AND it’s cheap. But I’m asking about Home Depots’ specifically (mind you, it isn’t Home Depot brand). I looked at the bag and it didn’t mention anything about additives, and said it was "mostly" made of pine and some other kind of wood.
BUT it also said "Not for human or animal consumption." which worries me. Is that just a standard message, or does that mean it’ll be poisonous to my little birdy?
Please don’t reply with "Don’t do it if you don’t know" or "Better safe than sorry." Obviously I’m NOT going to do it until I know, which is why I’m asking in the first place. Experience with wood pellets preferred.
I need to find a wood burning fire place blower, does anyone know where I can buy one? I have seached the web @ Lowes, Homedepot, and a few others. I just want the blower for a wood burning fireplace not anything else. Thank you ahead of time. I really need one A.S.A.P.
TY
It has a remote control to turn it off and on. I have been in the house for a year and a half and the fire place has recently started turning on by itself. Anybody know why and what I should do. Is it dangerous?
