What space heater is best on the electric bill?

Sooo….. I live on my own, and last winter, the gas bill to heat my apartment was killer.
This winter, to avoid some of the gas cost (and the heater vents have mold in them I have repeatedly informed the landlords of, and the heater is annoyingly loud, and ineffective) I want to do some space heaters instead. I’m only expecting to keep my place around 55 degf, so I don’t need a fireplace or anything. hahaha..

SO…. I’m looking at one of those oil filled radiant heaters, are they good on the electric bill? Or should I stick with a fan heater? Or a ceramic one?

I know this is a bit early, but I like to plan ahead, that’s just the kinda’ person I am.

Wood burning Stoves, and inhalation?

I live in a Apartment on the third floor. There is a house next to us that constantly has their wooden stove burning. All the fumes seem to come in to my Apartment from the top vents of their roof. Well into my Apartment, though sometimes it smells good, it does get a little disturbing, that constant smell, and My head seems to start to hurt, I have 3 children under 4yrs.

Do you think, this is a safety hazard, when their fumes of burning wood is coming into our home?

Does a home gas stove pose a carbon monoxide threat?

My apartment is equipped with a 4 burner natural gas stove. Could this emit carbon monoxide? Would I need a carbon monoxide detector or a natural gas detector…I think these are two different things?

What temperature extremes can my guinea pig handle?

I got my guinea pig a few years ago when I had an extremely climate controllable apartment– it was pretty cheap to keep the thermostat at 70 degrees year-round. However, we just moved to a condo that has no gas, individual electric heaters in every room, and a fireplace in the main room which is harder to heat. Ringo the guinea pig is in the main room too, about four feet to the left of the fireplace, and I’ve noticed her huddling toward the fireplace side of the cage when I have a fire going. I turn the heater down at night and put a blanket over her cage, and I was thinking of putting a heating pad under half of her cage so she can lay on it if she wants to. I know guinea pigs don’t do temperatures above eighty well, but how cold can she get, and how bad is it if she gets too cold?

Seizure or not? Fear response perhaps?

Alright the other day my dog (Terrier/Chi mix) had what I thought was a seizure. She has had other small episodes. Now we aren’t so sure they are seizures after my husband has witnessed these. She has these episodes we will call them. Everytime I try to cook something with the toaster, the microwave, or the oven. She is fine with the stove. This has been going on for over a week. vet isn’t sure they are seizures either, ofcourse he hasn’t witnessed them.

I have filmed one for future reference when I start the oven or toaster, she starts trembling like she is cold. And she just trembles for awhile. A lot of the time she ends up in my lap just trembling and I just talk to her. I’ll admit she is a skittish dog but a very good dog, very kind.

I’m wondering if maybe the toaster, microwave, or oven is setting off some kind of a smell that is triggering a fear response. The vet also mentioned being mixed with Chihuahua that chihuahuas shake and shiver a lot.

But seeing a dog of her size trembling like a chihuahua is kind of weird.

Anyways a few months back the people in the apartment above started their fireplace and the flew (i think that is what it is called) wasn’t open and the smoke backed up into our apartment. If we had not gotten home when we did and got those dogs out, both dogs would have suffocated. Smoke detector was an electric smoke detector and it never went off. Our apartment was full of smoke. We had to leave for the night.

I’m wondering since I’m not that great of a cook and I tend to burn things, I’m still learning. If she is thinking the smell is the apartment filling up with smoke again. So when she sees me use one of those items she gets that sudden fear and starts trembling.

Then again it could be seizures but its weird that they only happen when I cook. When my husband cooks it doesn’t happen. She has only done this once when my husband was home and we were doing an experiment with the toaster and she sure enough started up.

Again she is completely lucid and she walks around. She walks around all submissive like, ears back almost looking like she is in trouble and she just trembles and tries to hide or get close to us our our other dog and snuggle as close as possible and she just trembles.

Vet and us both are skeptical if these are seizures or not. Because it doesn’t sound like a typical seizure

I’m trying to get a video to upload of her episode but its going to take some time. I may ask again when the video comes up.
ADD: I’m sending the video to the vet as soon as it uploads

A small dog, that sheds little, and is easy to train?

we’re moving to an apartment, and we’re thinking of getting a small dog that would be able to use a litter box instead of needing a yard. We know that it is possible, but we’re just looking for the perfect dog to make it happen with. One that is very eager to learn, and remember. We are thinking of a toy poodle mix of some sort, but what breeds are the best?

Why does my cat paw at mirrors and glass?

My cat is always "pawing" at the mirrors in my apartment and also the glass on my wardrobe door. She doesn’t have her claws out when she is doing this, but it is the same as she would do when she is scratching like crazy on her post. She has even tried to do it on the TV and the little electric fireplace I have. She jumps up on the bathroom cabinet and paws at the mirror on the vanity. She does this at all times of the day, but especially late at night and early AM. It scares the heck out of me when she does this while I am sleeping! Why is she doing this and how can I stop her?
She is approximately 8 years old.
Please help – I don’t want her to do this on my TV one day. I am scared it could fall on her. Also, I am tired of cleaning her paw streaks on everything!!
