How do I turn my fireplace?
This might be the dumbest question of the day but I just scared of gas.I have a gas fireplace and would rather have a wood burning fireplace. It is more real and I am just to cheap to pay the gas bill every month. Can I just take out the insert fake firewood and put in wood? Do I have to get the gas line removed?

You really need the advise of a fireplace builder since we cannot see your particular setup. It may be as simple as you suggest.

look at your chimney ! if it is a little exhaust pipe, like a water heater, the answer is no!
If it terminates with a fireplace clay flue pipe, or metal fabricated tube for fireplaces +/- 12" tube, then you have a regular metal fire place & you can burn wood. Stick your head in there & look up….is there a damper & a big pipe going up through the roof? I am assuming you are in the south, most fireplaces used for heat are not metal prefab & have blowers. Most of the fire places in the south Simply suck the heated/cooled air out of the house!

chances are if it is a newer house that it was built for gas and you wouldnt be able to burn wood…it needs a firebrick firebox and a damper leading to a flue lined chimney…have it checked …
