do i have to replace or can i fix it?
on my wood fireplace their is the back wall thats made of i dont know what but looks like brick but to thin to be so is their a way to fix the crack or do i have to buy a whole insert?

na man, i am not sure what that stuff is either. mine has the same thing and i have wondered what it is the whole time that i have lived here. it is not actually a part of the fire insert as a backwall or anything. i wouldnt worry about it right now go ahead and burn some wood and when you get another piece replace it then but i wouldnt worry about it as a hazard.

It depends on the crack. If it is a major crack probally needs replacing. If its a minor crack maybe you can get away with using silicone.

If this is a factory made fire brick panel, probably not…can’t say for sure without seeing it, however, if it is brick, you can chisel out the broken bricks & set new fire bricks.
